The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce Foundation seeks a motivated and energetic candidate that is passionate about helping businesses & institutions fulfill their workforce needs to become our full-time Workforce Development Coordinator. The individual must create and facilitate an employer-led, industry sector-focused workforce development system that attracts and develops workers with community partners to raise awareness of career opportunities in critical occupations. Implement workforce development events & activities that promote job creation, workforce recruitment & retention, and advocate for the interest of employers in relation to workforce and education. This position will collect and report workforce related data to determine future workforce needs, and will be given the latitude to identify an innovative plan of action to accomplish those needs, including collaboration with various partners to coordinate workforce development initiatives for Staten Island.


  • Initiates and maintains ongoing contact with a variety of business and industry representatives, job placement/training agencies, and educational institutions to promote programs for job and internship placement;
  • Organize Staten Island Chamber's employer Private Industry Council (PIC) and bring together business owners, workforce professionals, and other stakeholders to discuss workforce trends and identify skill gaps and growth sectors;
  • Collects data from employers related to employment needs, including job requirements
    and skills;
  • Matches job skills with applicant qualifications;
  • Refers qualified applicants to employers and conducts necessary follow-up to assess
    employment verification;
  • Provides job development and employer support during the hiring process;
  • Explains the benefits and employment support services provided by various programs to
    employers, including addressing employer’s needs;
  • Acts as staff lead on CareerCon and other workforce related events and programs;
  • Acts as Chamber liaison to Staten Island Career and Technical Education Schools, Public
    and Private High Schools, Higher Education Institutions, and Training Agencies;
  • Oversees Chamber Assist Online Job Board;
  • Provides employers with information related to human resources policies, procedures, and
  • Develop a soft skills certification program or equivalent
  • Keeps updates regarding job fairs and web resources;
  • Prepares forms and reports related to placement activities;
  • Identify new potential funding sources, particularly private foundations, and develop
    fundraising plans.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Communications, Business, Human Resources or similar
  • Must have at least 2-5 years of related experience as a human resource generalist or
    workforce development professional
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple
    projects effectively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills is required
  • Automobile required

Training and Experience:

  • Experience in job placement or related field in either private or public agencies;
  • Knowledge of current methods and techniques of job development and placement; current
    practices in career and technical education;
  • Understanding of local labor market trends and employment opportunities in both the
    private and public sectors of Staten Island and NYC;
  • Knowledge of standard office software applications; social media platforms, various types
    of filing systems.
