Job Title: Housing Counselor
Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Salary: $52,000 – $58,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (occasional evening/weekend events required)

Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Housing Program Director, the Housing Counselor provides personalized, one-on-one guidance to help clients achieve their housing goals. Counselors work with individuals navigating mortgage delinquency, foreclosure, home repairs, affordable homeownership, or rental housing. Key responsibilities include financial analysis, household budgeting, and client advocacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Client Assessment & Support: Complete intake and initial triage, assist clients with forms, and develop tailored household budgets and affordability analyses.
- Action Planning: Create and manage individualized action plans, maintaining proactive follow-up to resolve client housing issues.
- Advocacy & Mediation: Represent homeowners in interventions or mediations with mortgage servicers, lenders, and other key stakeholders.
- Resource & Case Management: Maintain an accurate roster of supportive resources (financial, legal, counseling) and ensure accurate, timely data entry and file maintenance per HUD guidelines.
- Outreach & Compliance: Attend community outreach events, adhere to HUD regulations, and participate in industry training, webinars, and workshops.
Qualifications
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree OR two years of relevant experience. Experience in the mortgage lending industry is a plus.
- Certifications: Ability to successfully complete required workshops and obtain HUD Housing Counselor Certification within six months of hire.
- Languages: Bilingual proficiency (English paired with Spanish or Russian) is a strong plus.
- Skills: Strong task management abilities, excellent written/verbal communication, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
- Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including periodic evenings and weekends for events.
