Sundog Theatre, founded in 2002, is a Staten Island-based performing arts organization with an excellent reputation in 4 areas:
Sundog Theatre is seeking enthusiastic and creative Teaching Artists to join our arts education team. Teaching Artists lead engaging workshops and residencies in schools and community settings, helping students explore artistic ideas, build new skills, and express themselves creatively.
We are looking for artists who enjoy working with young people and are passionate about sharing their craft in a classroom environment. Teaching Artists should feel comfortable leading groups, adapting lessons to different learning styles, and creating a supportive and inclusive space for students to learn and participate.
3-D Literacy is Sundog Theatre’s proprietary program blending English Language Arts with Theater Arts, taking place during the school day with 2nd and 3rd graders. This arts integrated, NYS standards-based school residency strengthens reading, grammar and vocabulary by incorporating theater methods into literacy curriculum.
3-D Literacy Teaching Artists are confidently able to collaborate with classroom teachers, making their ELA curriculum come alive with dynamic theater games and activities. In addition to building academic skills, this program also foundationally includes Social Emotional Learning, exploring behavior as a literacy through our partnership with Focus-5, whose work in arts integration and SEL has been utilized by the Kennedy Center.
3-D Literacy and Focus-5 training will be provided.
Additional experience that is preferred but not required:
Bachelor’s degree in an arts-related field preferred, or equivalent professional and teaching experience.
Teaching Artists are paid starting at $50 per hour, depending on experience.
