POSITION SUMMARY:
The Education Specialist will be under the direct supervision of the SYEP Education Coordinator. The Education Specialist is responsible for providing a safe, caring, and enriching environment for youth enrolled in the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). The Education Specialist will oversee the implementation of project-based service-learning programming for youth between the ages of 14-15 years old. The Education Specialist will manage a team of educators, who collectively 15 cohorts of project based The Education Specialist will assist in providing training and ongoing support for SYEP Instructors. This position requires an individual who can work flexible hours with the ability to work in person, has 2+ years of experience in youth education, youth development, or project management, and offers a demonstrated commitment to civic engagement and/or service learning. The Education Specialist must be able to work efficiently and effectively with participants and the workforce development division.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
  • Oversee instruction and engagement of participants through supervision of, communication with, and observations of Instructors, in collaboration with and as directed by SYEP Education Coordinator
  • Support in the development, revision, modification, and implementation of curriculum and content, trainings and supplemental documents, activities, and professional development exercises for the SYEP Instructors, in collaboration with and as directed by SYEP Education Coordinator
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of orientation and training sessions for both participants and staff
  • Conduct and record cohort observations, including during both synchronous and asynchronous program activities
  • Support the implementation of UAU’s SYEP hybrid project-based learning experience by:
  • providing direct supervision and support to SYEP Instructors on a daily basis
  • recording/reporting observations and challenges
  • engaging in problem-solving and resource sharing to address existing or emerging challenges
  • actively working with Instructors to guide and elevate cohort instruction;
  • facilitating the distribution of programmatic and administrative materials and resources to any/all cohort(s); and
  • collaborating with SYEP Education Coordinator to schedule/coordinate guest speaker engagements and participant attendance
  • Work collaboratively with participant facing team members for participant payroll issues, participant mentorship and conflict resolution, or participant engagement activities that require educational support
  • Provide formal and informal training, coaching, and/or technical assistance
  • Attend SYEP team meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities, both virtually and in-person, as applicable to role
  • Assist with any other related advisory and/or departmental duties and projects as needed
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred
  • Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire
  • Must be willing and able to work hybrid - both in-person and remotely
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in the field of education and/or youth workforce development
  • Experience teaching and/or supporting youth with intellectual or developmental disabilities, a plus
  • Experience in the management and oversight of multiple teams
  • Willing and able to take initiative and allow for a flexible work schedule; including some nights and occasional weekends.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and complete work independently
  • Proficient use of GSuite, including Google Classroom
  • Respect for diverse racial, socio-economic, ethnic, academic, religious, and cultural backgrounds and identities
  • Bilingual, a plus
  • Reliable mode of transportation, preferably a motor vehicle
