The mission of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. We also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country.
The Foundation honors the military and first responders by providing smart, accessible, mortgage-free homes to catastrophically injured veterans and to Gold Star and Fallen First Responder families with young children.
The Foundation is seeking an individual to manage a caseload of recipients who become part of the mortgage-free home program. As case manager, the successful candidate will communicate with the Foundation, family liaison, and family members as they negotiate the intake and acceptance process. The case manager will address any immediate psychosocial needs to determine if a referral for local support or additional resources is indicated.
Applicants must be well organized, able to multitask effectively and in a timely manner, possess keen attention to detail, prioritize their workload, and handle sensitive information.
Duties and responsibilities
- Responsible for communicating between the Foundation, family liaison, and family members throughout the acceptance process and any continued follow-up needs.
- Prepare all necessary documentation of family eligibility for the mortgage-free home program.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary staff regarding home purchases, program agreements.
- Maintain current files on program families and document all communication with recipients.
- Psychosocial advocacy, when indicated, provides compassionate support to spouses who may need short-term or ongoing counseling by finding appropriate family resources.
- Ensure that ongoing psychosocial needs are being addressed through follow-up communication with the families referred.
- Administrative tasks will include email and phone correspondence, maintaining files and spreadsheets, and researching appropriate resources for recipients.
- When needed, the case manager may be involved in scheduling, communicating, and overseeing travel arrangements for program participants and their guests to facilitate their participation in Tunnel to Towers events.
- The case manager will coordinate with recipients their participation in sponsor and other third-party events held for the benefit of our Foundation and other appearances at various events, as requested.
- The case manager will coordinate with the recipients within their caseload, as well as the planning and preparations for the annual 5K Run & Walk NYC event weekend. Throughout the weekend, the case manager will be responsible for overseeing ground transportation and will work with other staff and volunteers to carry out all scheduled events, providing assistance to the families within their caseload.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social services or similar service fields required.
- Master’s degree in social work accredited by CSWE, (LMSW/LCSW) preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years social worker experience.
- Ability to handle sensitive information and confidential matters with discretion.
- Ability to work independently in fast-paced environment and multi-task in a smart and timely fashion.
- Must be detailed oriented.
- Must possess the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately in writing and verbally.
- Must have the quick thinking and problem-solving skills to effectively address issues that may occur.
- Must have the organizational skills to multi-task and handle various duties in short timeframes.
- Pre-employment screening, including a background check, is required.

Working conditions
Special Working conditions may include: a change in days worked, shift hours, and/or working conditions (outdoors or other locations) when participating and assisting in special events such as the NYC Tunnel to Towers Run, golf outings, and other fundraising events, as required.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
