Position Summary:

Provide instructional services to students under general supervision of a certified teacher. Requires working on a 1 to 1 basis with a student or with multiple students at a time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Discuss daily with the classroom teacher regarding the progress of the educational programs.
  • Implement and collect data on each student’s IEP goals’ and behavior management plan in conjunction with the classroom teacher and clinical team.
  • Assist students, as needed during activities of daily living/gym activities. (Can vary depending on student’s specific needs)
  • Assist in orientation of new staff/substitutes.
  • Lead or Assist in the development of behavior intervention along with corresponding material.
  • Responsible for graphing and summarizing classroom behavioral data.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administer Eden II School Curriculum Assessment
  • Attend Eden II School in-services, training, and staff meetings as required.
  • May be required to maintain classroom schedules and programming in the absence of the teacher.
  • Lead or assist in various group activities and aid in development of educational material.
  • Lead of assist in the training of staff to implement student’s behavior plans
  • Attend parent teacher conferences usually twice per year.
  • Must become certified in SCIP method.

Education, Examination, Training and Experience

  • Candidate must have completed a total of 18 credits towards meeting the requirements of an associate or baccalaureate degree.
  • Completion of necessary workshops required for certification.
  • Finger Print clearance (DOE and DOI depending on program)
  • Must pass NY State assessment of Teaching Assistant Level I test within one (1) year of employment or their position will be demoted.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.
  • Knowledge of classroom management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Training Requirements

Must pass the New York State assessment of teaching assistant level I test within one (1) year of employment or their position will be terminated.

In order to obtain your teaching assistant certification you must acquire school violence/child abuse certification showing completion of workshops.

Physical Demands:

  • Position may include standing or sitting for periods of time.
  • This position is accountable for escorting the students to and from the bus.
  • Use of crisis management strategies maybe required in the context of implementing behavior reduction plans.

This position may require assistance in ADL including toilet training

Pay: $19.35 - $22.50 per hour
