POSITION SUMMARY: The Peer Mentor for the Fatherhood Matters Initiative will be a key member of the team supporting low-income fathers and helping them become self-sufficient and more connected with their children and community, strengthening their children’s economic, emotional and social futures. Responsibilities will include facilitating parenting skills training and related workshops; organizing community projects; and conducting outreach and recruitment for the Fatherhood Initiative program. The Peer Mentor will be a trusted source of information for program participants, encouraging them and supporting them throughout their participation in the UAU Fatherhood Initiative.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
● Required: 18 years or older at time of hire
● Required: valid GED or High School diploma
● Required: reliable mode of transportation
● Required: Valid driver’s license
● Preferred experience, relatable as a father or parent /guardian capacity that has either been disconnected from and/or had supervised visitation with a child.
● Preferred, minimum of one year of relative work-related experience of proven effective team leadership with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
● Excellent organizational and time management skills
● Demonstrates ability to conduct and complete work independently
● Willing to take initiative and be flexible when needed
● Excels working in a collaborative environment to achieve target objects and outcomes
● Ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of and values individuals’ different capacities, cultures, and abilities
● Ability to perform at high level of emotional intelligence and ability to assess and respond to individual needs thoughtfully and accurately
● Consistently maintains respect for diverse racial, socio-economic, ethnic, academic, religious, and cultural backgrounds and identities.
● A demonstrated history of being an effective mentor, with excellent interpersonal skills.

· Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need.
· Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.
· Position is in a well-lighted office environment.
· Involves sitting approximately 50 percent of the day, walking or standing the remainder.
· Must be able to remain in a stationary position for at least 50% of the time.
· May include working prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
· The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet or more of the observer).
· May include travel to a variety of locations, based on programming needs. Which is reimbursed in accordance with UAU’s fiscal policies and procedures.
