Job Summary

The Stop & Stor Corporate Office is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. This role is vital in supporting the organization’s financial health, providing precise bookkeeping, and facilitating smooth financial operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills in various accounting software platforms and a solid understanding of financial concepts, including GAAP and double-entry bookkeeping.

Responsibilities

  • Record and classify financial transactions using QuickBooks accounting software.
  • Perform bank reconciliations to ensure consistency between bank statements and ledger entries.
  • Manage accounts payable by processing invoices, verifying expenses, and issuing payments accurately.
  • Oversee accounts receivable by invoicing clients, tracking payments, and following up on overdue accounts.
  • Prepare journal entries for various financial activities and ensure proper documentation.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts regularly to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Assist with month-end closing procedures, including balance sheet reconciliation and account analysis.
  • Support payroll processing by calculating wages, deductions, and preparing related reports.
  • Maintain detailed records of all financial transactions in compliance with GAAP standards.
  • Generate financial reports to provide insights into organizational financial status.
  • Collaborate with external auditors during audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Assist in budgeting processes by analyzing expenses and revenue data.
  • Ensure compliance with governmental accounting standards when applicable.
  • Utilize technical accounting skills to resolve discrepancies and improve bookkeeping processes.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar role within corporate or non-profit organizations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Quicken, Xero, Sage, or comparable systems.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP principles, double-entry bookkeeping, and general ledger accounting.
  • Experience with account reconciliation, bank reconciliation, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting practices is a plus.
  • Familiarity with accounts payable/receivable processes and payroll management.
  • Ability to perform 10-key typing efficiently for data entry tasks.
  • Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical skills for account analysis and financial report writing.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of tax regulations related to financial reporting is desirable.
