Program Overview
The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce Foundation established the Small Business Resource Network (SBRN) to strengthen small businesses across Staten Island. The SBRN provides hands-on support, connects business owners with key resources, and helps enhance long-term resilience and competitiveness in an ever-changing economic landscape.
Position Summary
Business Outreach Specialists play a central role in delivering services through the SBRN. Assigned to specific geographic or industry sectors, each Specialist serves as a frontline liaison to small businesses. The position involves proactive outreach, personalized assistance, resource navigation, and community engagement to help businesses grow, adapt, and thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one consultative support to small businesses and develop individualized service plans.
- Connect businesses with financial, legal, marketing, technology, and general business resources, including programs offered by government agencies and partner organizations.
- Assist businesses in completing applications for grants, loans, and other business support programs.
- Create and distribute social media posts and success stories to internal and external audiences.
- Establish relationships with external organizations to stay informed about free or low-cost resources for small businesses.
- Attend after-hours vendor events and community partner programs to promote SBRN services.
- Table at community events and distribute SBRN marketing materials to raise awareness.
- Participate in weekly video calls with the SBRN team to coordinate efforts and share updates.
- Stay informed on the latest programs, policies, grants, loans, and regulations affecting small businesses.
- Conduct on-site digital field assessments and business surveys to evaluate needs.
- Develop and implement localized business outreach strategies tailored to neighborhood priorities.
- Organize walkthroughs with elected officials and stakeholders to spotlight business needs and challenges.
- Plan and execute neighborhood-specific marketing and promotional events to drive consumer engagement.
- Collect, enter, and analyze data to measure program impact; track progress using CRM software (Salesforce).
- Maintain detailed records of all outreach activities, communications, and referrals.
- Collaborate with BIDs, LDCs, merchant associations, and other community partners to build a hub of business resources.
- Participate in special projects and initiatives as directed by Chamber leadership.
- Spend at least 70% of work time in the field, engaging directly with businesses.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and experience in business, marketing, finance, economic development, or a related field preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior outreach or fieldwork experience preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese is highly desirable.
- Passion for supporting small businesses and local economic growth.
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Staten Island residency or familiarity with Staten Island neighborhoods preferred.
- Must be able to reliably commute to Staten Island, NY 10314
Salary and Benefits
Pay: $50,000 – $70,000 per year (commensurate with experience)
