Program: Crime Victims Assistance & Elder Abuse Services for Older Adults
Job Purpose & Objectives
Provide case work to elder abuse victims (60 years or older) including safety planning, assessment, education and advocacy when elder abuse is suspected or identified. Provide linkage to needed services which will assist them in recovering from victimization.
Responsibilities:
- Obtain intake information on all individuals assigned when elder abuse is suspected or identified.
- Conduct individual the initial assessment at client's home, office visits or by telephone to assess client’s needs and safety.
- Develop case plan for crisis intervention services, safety planning and if necessary, arrange for on-going services.
- Provide ongoing case management to all clients assigned, including updating assessments as information is learned and ongoing safety planning.
- Provide information, referral, advocacy, ongoing monitoring and counseling as needed.
- Assist clients in the completion of any entitlements, benefits and other financial assistance forms.
- Provide escort and act as an advocate in court when required.
- Identify community resources available to meet service needs of elder abuse victims.
- Maintain case records on all clients and complete necessary statistical documentation.
- Compile statistics on referrals, services and financial assistance disbursed.
- Be familiar with all relevant NYS OVS, NYC DFTA and other elder abuse/elder justice resources.
- Maintain working relationships with the police and community service providers, especially with all NYPD, Staten Island precincts’ Domestic Violence Officers (DVOs).
- Participate in community education and outreach in relation to elder abuse and crime victim assistance resources and other crime prevention services when assigned.
- Establish necessary service linkages for clients, including appropriate referrals as part of the service plan.
- Complete and file Orders of Protection when appropriate and client agrees.
- Participate in the monthly EMDT (Enhanced Abuse Multidisciplinary Team) meetings.
- Participate in the Richmond County District Attorney (RCDA) Domestic Violence meetings.
- Assist in the facilitation of CASC Elder Abuse support group in person or via ZOOM.
- Assist with related program activities as assigned.
- Know overall agency’s mission, goals and programs.
Supervisory Responsibility:
None
Education and Experience:
MSW/MA preferred with experience working in human services, health, older adults and or domestic violence services.
BSW/BA required with minimum 3 years’ experience in direct service to older adults and/or domestic violence services.
Requisite Skills and Capabilities:
1) Sensitivity to staff and clients.
2) Should be organized and detail-oriented.
3) Good communication skills, oral and written.
4) Good computer skills, Word, Excel, Outlook
5) Work with considerable self-reliance.
Salary and Benefits:
$48,000-$50,500/year
