The Director of Development reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and is a key member of the leadership team responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising and communications strategy. This role drives revenue growth through major gifts, grants, corporate partnerships, annual giving, and special events while elevating the organization’s brand and visibility.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, relationship-builder, and passionate advocate for individuals with IDD and Autism, with a proven track record in nonprofit fundraising.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising & Revenue Strategy

  • Lead and execute a diversified development plan, including individual giving, major gifts, planned giving, grants, and special events.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major donors and institutional funders.
  • Oversee grant research, writing, and reporting in partnership with program staff and finance.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team to support their fundraising efforts and engage their networks.
  • Develop and implement innovative fundraising campaigns and initiatives to attract new donors.

Donor Engagement & Stewardship

  • Develop and manage a donor stewardship strategy that builds long-term relationships and increases donor retention.
  • Create personalized engagement opportunities for major donors and prospects, including site visits, impact reports, and recognition.

Strategic Communications & Advancement

  • Oversee all external communications, including newsletters, impact reports, and donor appeals.
  • Lead efforts to increase organizational visibility through storytelling, branding, and digital engagement.
  • Work closely with departments to ensure consistent messaging aligned with mission and values.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Supervise volunteers involved in fundraising.
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally to align development strategy with programmatic goals and organizational needs.
  • Provide regular development reports and analytics to the leadership team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in nonprofit development.
  • Demonstrated success securing major gifts and managing donor relationships.
  • Experience with grant writing and foundation fundraising.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Deep understanding of and commitment to the mission of supporting people with IDD.
  • Experience with donor databases.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree a plus.
